WebThe assessment of mood should be based on the patient’s report. Occasionally, nurses may infer mood from affect, but this can be misleading because affect is not always congruous with mood. The reason affect is not always congruous with mood is because understanding affect as the outer appearance of mood is an over-simplification of affect.
